A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro Book Review!!
Hey guys! It's Emma! Today, I have a book review on A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro for you guys. I know it's a few days late, but this weekend was so hectic and crazy that I didn't have time to post. Anyways, let's go ahead and get into the review. This book follows Jamie Watson as he moves to Sherringford, a prep school in Connecticut, on a rugby scholarship. Upon his arrival, he finds out that none other than Charlotte Holmes goes to the same school. Once Jamie and Charlotte meet, a tense relationship forms as they seem to be more rivals than friends. However, one night, a student turns up dead, with characteristics straight from a Sherlock Holmes story, and the rivaling duo are framed for his murder. Will they be able to work together? Can they clear their names?
First off, the characters were pretty good in this book. I did find Jamie to be annoying at times in the novel because it seemed like he kept repeating the same things. Plus, he made his feelings and love for Charlotte seem so dramatic. On the other hand, I loved Charlotte so much. She was sarcastic and intelligent with a little hint of mystery in her actions. I loved the friendship developed between the two as the story went on. It definitely reminded me of the original Holmes and Watson. Although I loved them as friends, I didn't really like them as a couple. Once they became a couple, all of their interactions seemed very awkward to me.
As for the plot, I thought it was amazing. The crimes kept me on the edge of my seat, especially when Charlotte and Jamie were close to solving them. In my opinion, all of the connections they were making between suspects, theories, and the Sherlock Holmes' stories were explained and thought very well. I didn't find myself getting lost in all of the information and crime-solving instead I found myself trying to figure out the murder with them.
Overall, I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars. The story was suspenseful and gripping. I found it hard to want to put the book down and stop reading. I would definitely say this lived up to my expectations. I would recommend this everyone from Sherlock Holmes lovers to YA readers.
That is all I have for you guys. Once again, I am sorry that it's a few days late, but it was posted eventually and that's all that matters. Anyways, I have another post coming up this weekend so look for that. I will talk to you guys later. Bye!
