Buried by C.J. Carmichael Book Review!!
Hey guys! It's Emma! Today, I am doing a review on Buried by C.J. Carmichael. This book follows Dougal Lachlan as he travels back to his hometown for his sister's wedding. During his visit, Dougal starts receiving emails from an anonymous account about a series of murders of librarians in the 1970s. Dougal decides to follow the clues to solve the mysteries. Will he find the answers he's looking for? Or will the clues lead to a dead end?The main characters of this book were Dougal, his sister, Jamie, and the librarian, Charlotte. I thought the author did a great job of developing the characters. I was able to imagine the characters and found their personalities different. However, I wasn't able to connect with any of the characters because I couldn't find one that I could relate to and that made it hard to get into the story in the beginning.
The plot of the story was a bit different than I thought it would be. I thought the main focus would be on the librarian murders, but it focused on several different events like Charlotte's sister who ran off to Sacramento and Jamie and Kyle's marriage. This kind of disappointed me because I wasn't interested in the other plot lines as I was about the murders. On the other hand, I did like the way the author went about the murders with the emails and Dougal investigating the clues. I found this aspect of the novel interesting because I love anything with investigating crimes. In that aspect, I found the book interesting. However, the book focuses on people that I thought were useless until I read the end of the book and everything made sense.
Overall, I gave this book a 3 out of 5 stars. I thought the book was interesting in some parts, but there were other parts that I was forcing myself to read. Plus, the book focused on a relationship that I didn't care for. In the end, I would say it was an okay book, but I have read better books. I know this is the first book in a series, but I don't have enough interest to read the rest of the series.
